You Can Count on Karla, because Karla Cares!
“I am the candidate who worked for and achieved zoned parking for our community and restricted hours for nearby establishments so that people in the workforce, students, children, families and seniors can get a good night’s rest.”
My name is Karla Lewis. I’ve been a resident in the 5E06 Bloomingdale community for over 32 years. Employed at the IMF, I was an international civil servant doing my part to support the work for the global community. I understand the criticality of having systems in place to support the health, education, employment and transportation for all citizens. Next year, I will retire. I am running for the ANC seat because I want to continue serving the Bloomingdale community in a greater capacity and as a retiree, I will be able to focus on the needs of this community on a full time basis.
As a long time community leader, I have been actively involved in protecting our rights to live in a neighborhood that is peaceful, orderly, and safe for all residents. On many occasions, I represented members of the community at various public hearings and was able to achieve restrictions on the hours and occupancy at nearby establishments. I believe that it is important to establish a good balance on the new development while not forgetting the residents in our community. We have children, seniors and professionals that live in our neighborhoods. Our neighborhoods need to be livable for the diversity of residents that reside in our community. I believe that economic development is good. However, controls need to be set in place in order to preserve the quality of life for all residents. The residents, local businesses and DC Government must work together to build strong, healthy and vibrate communities. I want to be your voice and advocate to ensure that the concerns of residents are addressed.
You can Count on Karla to…
- advocate for your concerns,
- update you on changes that will impact our community,
- collaborate with the community to solve issues, and
- ensure the preservation of a good quality of life.
